After nearly two decades of service to Georgetown University Medical Center, Jett McCann, MLS, CKM, DM/AHIP, Senior Associate Dean for Knowledge Management and Director of Dahlgren Memorial Library, will be retiring this year, assuming the title of Emeritus Librarian.
Since joining Georgetown in March 2007, Dean McCann has led the transformation of DML to a modern, service-based resource, moving from a completely print-based to an all electronic collection of resources. During his tenure, DML grew from 1,200 print journals to 15,000+ e-journals; from 3 abstracts indexes to 155 databases, and adding 22 e-point of care tools. His commitment to modernize DML also included oversight for the development of reference services that provide via AI chat 24/7 and establishment of an innovative Team Based Learning Center.
Under Dean McCann’s leadership, DML librarians have become a more integral part of GUMC’s research and educational programs, including a dedicated team of DML librarians who serve as preclinical advisors to medical students, co-course directors, and instructors in several programs. Several members of the DML team are regarded as experts in areas including resources management and staff services, and all are accredited by the Association of Health Information Professionals.
Dean McCann, a retired U.S.Navy Captain, also demonstrated his direct dedication to medical students by serving as an advisor to about 200 School of Medicine Health Professionals Scholars during his tenure.
Thank you Dean McCann for your service to the community.
Linda Van Keuren, MLS, AHIP, Assistant Dean for Resources & Access Management, agreed to serve as interim director of Dahlgren Memorial Library –her work began April 1.
