Responsible Use of Electronic Resources

The resources provided by Dahlgren Memorial Library (DML) are subscribed electronic resources for the use of the Georgetown University Medical Center community. These resources include databases, Point-of-Care tools, journals, books, and more.

Although the use parameters are unique to each resource; generally permitted uses include:

  • Non-commercial or personal research
  • Scholarly research
  • Course instructional materials

Not permitted:

  • Sharing of usernames/passwords
  • Excessive, systematic downloading/printing of content
  • Submission of content to Artificial Intelligence LLMs (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) without prior approval
  • Text mining without prior discussion with Dahlgren Memorial Library
  • Posting content on social media sites

Using subscribed resources for non-permitted purposes can lead to a variety of consequences such as individual/campus-wide access denials or legal action. Users are also required to adhere to the University Technology Policies when using library computers or online resources/services.

Data Use

Dahlgren Memorial Library collects statistics about the use of online library resources.  These statistics are primarily used as de-identified and aggregated data to better manage resources and improve services for users.  By logging in and using the resources linked to on the DML web site,  you are agreeing to this data use policy.  Some resources linked on the DML site require an individual account in order to personalize the content or save work.  Users are encouraged to review privacy statements on resource sites as the individual publisher policies govern the collection of data on their sites.
