Blackboard Student Guide

This guide provides students with instructions on how to access and use Blackboard course sites. Since it is designed for using the PC stations with Windows XP at the BACC in the Dahlgren Library, you may need different instructions if you use other computer labs or your home computers.

How to Access to a Blackboard Course Site

  1. Open your Web browser.
  2. Go to the Blackboard login page at http://campus.georgetown.edu/.
  3. Log in with your NetID and NetID password.
  4. Blackboard will open with a page listing of all of your Blackboard course sites.
How to Use a Blackboard Course Site

Navigating in a course site

  1. When you navigate between content areas, click an appropriate button on the Navigation bar.
  2. When you navigate within a content area, use the Internal Navigation Buttons to move in and out of documents and folders. To open a folder or file, click on the folder title or select the name of a link for the file.

Viewing PowerPoint slides

  1. It is recommended to use Internet Explorer to view PowerPoint slides in Blackboard. If you use Netscape, you should have PowerPoint or install PowerPoint Viewer to view PowerPoint slides on your computer. You can download PowerPoint Viewer at http://microsoft.com/downloads/.
  2. To view PowerPoint slides, click on the name of a link for a PowerPoint presentation (with the PowerPoint extension, .ppt) and click on the Open button in the File Download window.
  3. To view PowerPoint slides in the Full Screen mode, click on a slide window with the right button of your mouse and select Full Screen. To put the slides back in the Blackboard window, click on the Esc button on your keyboard.
  4. To view notes of PowerPoint slides, click on a slide window with the right button of your mouse and select Edit Slides. When you want to get back to the Slide Show mode, click on the Slide Show button at the left bottom corner.
Printing and saving PowerPoint slides
  1. To print PowerPoint slides, click on a slide window with the right button of your mouse and select Print.
  2. To save a PowerPoint presentation on your computer, click on the name of a link for a PowerPoint presentation with the right button of your mouse and select Save Target As. You can also click on the name of a link for a PowerPoint presentation and click on the Save button in the File Download window.

Viewing Gross Anatomy movies (for Gross Anatomy class students)

  1. The movies are in the Lab area of the Gross Anatomy course site. You can also view the movies at http://www1.georgetown.edu/dml/students/5586.html.
  2. You need QuickTime Player on your station to view the movies. If it is not on your station, you can download it at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/.
  3. You can quickly move to any point in a movie by dragging the indicator in the slider to the right or left.
  4. You can also enlarge the screen by dragging the screen's right bottom corner.
  5. If you view the movies with a dial-up modem connection, you would have delay or difficulty caused by buffering. Please use faster Internet connections or on-campus computer labs.
  6. If the movie buttons have broken images on the page, click on them with the right button of your mouse and select Open this Link.
